The direct selling community is a people industry and therefore, protecting the health of both consumers and the people working in the sector is our top priority. All Estonian Direct Selling Association’s (EDSA) member companies are committed to respecting and acting in accordance with all governmental instructions and guidance from the authorized institutions.
COVID-19 turns out to be a major disruption of people’s and businesses’ regular life, causing great strain for everyone. It is also a time when, unfortunately, certain fraudulent activities may be committed by some dishonest merchants. Thus, we are convinced that it is vital to protect Consumers from any possible unethical and illegal commercial practices, which try to exploit consumers’ health anxieties in relation with COVID-19 situation and to benefit from it, for example, using unsubstantiated claims related to health and protection from this pandemic. Such practices are absolutely unacceptable.
EDSA member companies and their independent partners are obliged comply with high ethical standards set in the EDSA Code of Ethics. The EDSA Code of Ethics safeguards consumers and independent partners and unambiguously prohibits false or misleading product claims from EDSA member companies and their sellers. Also WFDSA and EDSA issued additional guidance for its members seeking to strengthen measures to ensure accurate and fully transparent product information and claims made by member companies and their independent sales forces during this Covid-19 pandemic.
EDSA will be completely intolerant to any unethical practices developing around COVID-19. Any complaints related to the activity of such kind will be investigated by the Association according to the procedure set in the Code of Ethics, with maximum scrutiny and at top priority.
At the same time we wish to express our empathy and solidarity to everyone affected by the pandemic of COVID-19, as well as with everyone who are fighting with this dangerous virus and doing everything to stop it and to mitigate its harm to society and state economy.
